We transition from the internal work of Lent to the public theater of Holy Week. This week is a provocative exploration of Kenosis (The Emptying). We challenge the triumphalism often associated with Palm Sunday—the desire for a King who will “smash” our enemies and “fix” the world through domination. The Mender does not enter Jerusalem as a master potter coming to demand a perfect inventory. Instead, the Mender enters as a fellow vessel, willing to be shattered. This is the inclusive vulnerability of God: the Creator does not hover above the fracture but descends into it. We explore the radical truth that the “gold” isn’t just a substance God applies to us; the gold is the very life of God poured out, becoming the “binder” through the act of self-emptying.
