A Wider Table: Prayer Team
This fall, Trinity is gathering around a table that's already set. Over four weeks of worship, reflection, and commitment, we're asking God to show us what this season of generosity is inviting us toward, and we want as many people as possible holding that question in prayer alongside us.
That's the heart of the A Wider Table Prayer Team: a simple, four week commitment to pray for this congregation, this season, and one another. Judy Jacobson is leading the effort, and it's as low key as it sounds, no meetings, no extra commitments beyond prayer itself. You'll receive a short weekly email with a few specific things to hold before God, and the rest is between you and God. Watch an invitation from Judy:
It's not too late to join. Whether you missed the invitation in worship or you've been meaning to sign up, you're welcome in anytime between now and October 25.
We'll also use this space to gather each week's prayer focus, so if you'd rather read along here than wait for email, or want to revisit a previous week, you can always find it below.
Prayer Prompts
As you pray, you might begin by simply opening your hands, palms up, as a way of telling God you are ready to receive. There is no right way to do this, and a few quiet minutes each day is plenty: first thing in the morning, before a meal, or in the last moments before sleep. You can pray the prompts below in your own words, return to the one that speaks to you most, or sit with them in silence and let them pray through you. If your mind wanders, that's all right. Just begin again.
Week 1
For open hearts as this season begins, that worry or obligation would give way to awe and gratitude for what God has already prepared.
For households using the brochure at home, for honest conversation and room to notice God's abundance already present in daily life.
For the Council and staff leading this season, for wisdom and a generous spirit.
Week 2
Pray for anyone in our congregation or community who feels like an outsider, that they would know there is a seat already set for them.
Pray for our congregation as each household prayerfully considers this year's Mission Giving Fund options, The Access Project, BEST, and LNC Partners, and prepares to make their selection on their commitment card.
Pray for our Preschool and CDC families, that Trinity's welcome would be felt well beyond Sunday mornings.
Week 3
Pray for households as they consider how their daily work, at a job, at home, or in the neighborhood, becomes an extension of their faith.
Pray for those serving quietly this week in care ministry, in the schools, and in acts no one applauds, that they would feel sustained.
Pray for a spirit of joy rather than obligation as households begin preparing their commitment cards.
