Overview

Relational Ministries are a combination of engaging ministries (finding adults with the necessary gifts for these ministries and equipping them for their ministries), nurturing ministries (affirmation of baptism, family ministries, small groups, etc.), and connecting ministries.


Purpose of the Position

Rooted in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) understanding of church as a community, the Relational Ministries Coordinator (RMC) supports the congregation's life by fostering connection, belonging, and care, and by modeling and empowering leaders to carry out these ministries. This part-time role serves as the welcoming face of Trinity Lutheran Church & Schools (TLCS), coordinating the journey from guest to member to active participant, ensuring that everyone who enters our doors feels welcomed, supported, and equipped to discover their spiritual gifts and find their place in our community.

Duties & Responsibilities


Welcome & Hospitality:

  • Coordinate and strengthen hospitality ministries by working with hospitality and worship teams to identify and warmly guide guests.

  • Offer training, resources, and strategic direction to equip hospitality leaders and empower all congregation members to extend biblical hospitality aligned with TLCS's mission and values.


Connection & Follow-Up:

  • Reach out to every guest with personal, timely follow-up (phone, email, or visit) within one week of their first visit.

  • Partner with staff to maintain a database tracking visitors to support ongoing connection and communication.

  • Design clear pathways for guests to connect with pastors, ministry leaders, and the wider congregation, recognizing that people come with different backgrounds and needs.


Integration into Community:

  • Schedule and lead "Connect with Trinity" sessions, creating natural entry points for newcomers to join the life of the congregation.

  • Walk alongside new members through their first year, checking in regularly to ensure they feel connected and supported.


Ministry Engagement & Spiritual Gifts:

  • Learn about the Trinity community by participating in the life of the church—understanding people's needs, passions, and gifts—to thoughtfully match individuals with ministry opportunities.

  • Partner with ministry leaders to expand volunteer opportunities, understand current activities, and explore new relational ministries in response to emerging needs.

  • Accompany new participants in identifying their spiritual gifts and ministries of interest.

  • Adaptive leadership to respond to the rapid changes of content and work environment.

  • Coordinate with office staff to complete volunteer background checks as required.


Care & Support:

  • Be attentive to individuals with special needs or relationship challenges, offering appropriate support or connecting them with pastoral care.

  • Support small groups, learning communities, and fellowship ministries that build relationships across the congregation.


Collaboration:

  • Participate in weekly staff meetings.

  • Collaborate with pastors, staff, and ministry leaders to understand current activities, explore new ministries, and support connection efforts across the congregation.

  • Work with communications staff to ensure accurate, timely information reaches newcomers and volunteers.


Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Knowledge of church life and genuine love for Jesus, with a deep desire to see people in community with Jesus and each other. ELCA Lutheran background is a bonus.

  • Experience leading a small group community.

  • Passionate about making disciples and creating new avenues for growth through collaboration, accompaniment, and mutual support.

  • Ability to cast vision, organize people and resources, and empower others to help implement that vision.

  • Self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team, without needing close supervision.

  • Gift for calling out the giftedness in others and accompanying them through discernment to connect with God through service in the Body of Christ.

  • Highly relational person able to listen well, relate to diverse people, and encourage and motivate others.

  • Comfortable working with people at different points in their faith walk and life circumstances.

  • Respect and appreciation for all people, with the ability to relate to those with disabilities or special needs.

  • Understanding of when to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.

  • Problem-solving skills and wisdom to know when to seek help from others with stronger expertise.

  • Basic proficiency in word processing (Google Drive, Microsoft Office, etc) and willingness to learn church-specific database programs.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Additional languages are a bonus.


Accountability

This position reports to the Pastor(s) and Administrator.


Salary/Compensation

Salary range is based on experience and qualifications.
