Overview
Ministries serving families, children, and youth are an integral part of TLCS's mission. The impact of this work is to offer relational opportunities that lead to spiritual growth, faith formation, and disciple-making lives for families and their children.
This work is a combination of engaging ministries; it includes: preschool, elementary, middle-school, and high school children and youth. It involves partnering with adult members who equip youth and provide nurturing to families and their children along the pathways to discipleship (affirmation, Sunday School, small groups, etc.), and connecting these ministries with other groups in the congregation in a collaborative model that avoids siloed ministries.
Purpose of the Position
This is a part-time position which requires a high level of coordination, relational work, and clarity of vision and purpose. It also requires a commitment to re-imagine ministry with families and their children, creativity, foresight, and partnership with the congregation in growing and becoming what the Spirit needs at this time.
The Families, Children, and Youth Coordinator provides vision, leadership, and coordination for ministries related to the faith formation of children, youth, and their parents (duties and responsibilities in these areas are listed below). The core of this ministry is building and strengthening relationships between people and Jesus, their peers, and significant mentors. Through these relationships, people of all ages will be encouraged and called to be pilgrims, partners in mission learning to walk in the way of the faith of Jesus.
Summary
The Families, Children, and Youth Coordinator embodies TLCS' core values through focused ministry to children, youth, and their families:

Works with the pastoral team and the Minister of Music and Worship to design, align, and cultivate leadership that creates space to grow as followers of Jesus and disciples who make other disciples.
Fosters and encourages growth in making the ministry with families, children, and youth relevant and transformational.
Multi-generational ministry relevant to all ages and promoting relationships across generations Bringing different generations together for fellowship, service, worship, and learning.
Develops and fosters mentoring (apprenticing) relationships across generations.
Intentionally and creatively invests in people to expand their understanding of the mutual need generations have of each other.
Duties & Responsibilities
Faith Formation:
Coordinate current youth programs in collaboration with congregational leaders and staff team members.
Evaluate the current children and youth ministries, and reimagine how they can be relevant and nurturing for the current needs of families and their children.
Provide opportunities for youth to learn resilience in a challenging world.
Foster the development of faith formation in the home by developing a team to do ministry with families.
Coordinate adult teachers and mentors for Sunday School and youth (Jr./Sr. High) programming.
Work with teams to train and support the “volunteers” involved in faith formation ministry.
Work in collaboration with the pastor(s) to guide and support the Affirmation process of faith formation.
Assist worship planners in seasonal children and family focused worship experiences.
Reproducing Leadership:
Provide spiritual leadership and administrative oversight to TLCS families, children, and youth that aligns with TLCS’ impact and values.
Model and lead TLCS’ mission of multiplying, equipping, and empowering households of faith.
Develop teams in areas of faith formation for children, adolescents and families.
Work with parents and youth teams to train and support the volunteers involved in the faith formation ministry.
Oversee the planning and staffing of volunteers for activities and events, e.g., retreats, fellowship events, outings, etc.
Ministry:
Create opportunities for parents/families to connect and build friendships beyond regular church activities.
Identify, equip, and integrate adults to work with youth ministry.
Foster leadership among youth.
Participate in Sunday worship.
Foster connections between the youth program and Trinity Schools, other ministry teams, and our campus partners at the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center.
Administrative Support:
Manage safe haven policies and teaching methods in collaboration with pastor, staff team members, and the church council.
Provide for training of Sunday School teachers in age-appropriate development, classroom management, safe haven policies and teaching methods.
Oversee the staffing of volunteers for Sunday morning children’s programming.
Work directly with the student ministries adult volunteers and Student Leadership Team.
Mindful stewardship of funds and resources for the program – budget, database, and volunteers.
Attend All Staff Meetings.
Skills & Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Biblical Studies; children, youth and family ministry; or Christian education
Prefer five years of experience in children, youth and family, or equivalent ministry experience.
Experience working as part of a team in a collaborative, creative, and adaptive leadership model.
Knowledge of human development and educational models and theories.
A strong knowledge of Lutheran theology and doctrine.
Training and certifications in education, volunteerism, management, and fundamentals for children and youth ministry.
Desire to share the love of Jesus within the communities of TLCS, the ELCA, and our neighborhood.
Ability to recognize the gifts and special needs of our youth, children, and families to contribute to their growth and faith.
Basic proficiency in word processing (Google Drive, Microsoft Office, etc) and willingness to learn church-specific database programs.
Fluent in spoken and written English with additional languages a bonus.
Willingness to share office space.
Self starter that listens and also knows when to seek help from others.
Experience with leading small groups.
Desire to participate with the youth in their games and activities.
Accountability
This position reports to the Lead Pastor.
Salary/Compensation
