Trinity offers many ways to join in, whether you are a lifelong student of scripture or just beginning to wonder.

A Year of Wonder, Self-Discovery, and Grace

This year we walk the church year together with three seasons of study and one special evening. Each gathers around a book, a conversation, and a table. Come to one or come to all. Whether you bring a lifetime of faith or a lifetime of questions, there is a place for you.

Advent 2026:
Waiting & Wonder

"Voices of Advent" Book Study

Advent asks us to wait, and to wait well. Alongside our worship series, Tear Open the Heavens!, we listen for Scripture's voices of hope, longing, and incarnation, reading Voices of Advent by Dr. Matthew Skinner of Luther Seminary. For quiet moments between Sundays, Honest Advent by Scott Erickson is a devotional companion for waking up to the wonder of God-with-us, then, here, and now.

Self-Awareness & Community

The Enneagram Cohort

To love God and neighbor well, it helps to know who we are, and the deepening happens best in company. In this four-week workshop, we explore the Enneagram as a way of seeing ourselves with honesty and grace, drawing on The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile. We move through the head, gut, and heart centers toward emotional healing and a community where people can be truly known.

Movie Night: The Way

Stay after the Shrove Tuesday Dinner for a pilgrimage story. In The Way, directed by Emilio Estevez, a father walks the Camino de Santiago in the footsteps of his son. It is a film about grief, about the community that finds us when we least expect it, and about the step-by-step reality of living out our faith.

Lent 2027:
Faith, Darkness & Freedom

Lent Dual-Text Book Study

What if the dark isn't something to escape? We pair two voices that don't often share a table: Martin Luther, on the freedom that frees us for vulnerable service to our neighbors, and Barbara Brown Taylor, on the grace that can be found in the shadows. Reading The Freedom of a Christian and Learning to Walk in the Dark side by side, we reframe our relationship with the unknown, not as something to fear but as ground where God is already at work.

Pathways to Discipleship

In forming faith, we know that people learn differently and grow at different paces in their faith lives. Pathways to Discipleship gives individuals and households the opportunity to experience faith learning in the style that works for them. It also challenges everyone to step out of their preferred style and try a new way to form their faith.​​

​

  • Head: knowledge-based activities such as text and book study. This year: the Advent and Lent book studies, and Weekday Bible Study.

  • Heart: nurturing relationship with one another and with God through retreats, meditation, worship, and prayer. This year: the Enneagram cohort, Movie Night, and Sacred Pause.

  • Hands: doing the work of discipleship by serving others in various ways. Find a place to serve on our Get Involved page.

Formation Opportunities

Trinity offers ongoing formation opportunities as well as occasional series, studies, and forums. All are welcome! Drop in from time to time or join in every week, in person or online. Whether you are a Bible expert or just looking to learn more, there is a seat for you.

​

  • Weekday Bible Study meets Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in person, with Zoom participation. Each week takes a deep dive into the upcoming Sunday's readings, and occasionally a specific topic or theme. Come every week or when you can. Led by Pastor Hector, Jeff Tobin, and Pr. John-Otto Liljenstol (Pr. Joshua). To be added to the distribution list for weekly updates and Zoom connection info, contact Kelly Apling at office@tlcs.church.

  • Sacred Pause gathers on the first Tuesday of each month at noon in the chapel. It is a quiet refuge in the middle of a busy day: time to sit, breathe, and listen for God together. Come as you are, for as long as you can stay. 

​

  • Sunday Adult Forums and seasonal series gather following the 10 AM worship service. Forums are occasional; seasonal series, like this year's Formed Together (above), meet on Sundays after worship in Room 203 and online via Zoom. 

​

  • Baptismal Instruction & Information Classes are offered several times a year for anyone interested in Baptism at TLCS. Register through the listings below or read more about the baptismal process.

​

  • Special events are woven in from time to time as part of the larger Faith Formation program: a film night, a guest lecture, a pilgrimage story, or a conversation with a visiting theologian. Each is open to all, and each is announced in the Worship Guide, What's Happening, and the listings below.

​

New to this?

No experience needed. You do not need to be a Bible expert, have read the book, or be a member of Trinity to join any of the Faith Formation offerings. Every gathering is open to all.
