“We were gentle among you, like a nursing mother caring for her own children.”
1 Thessalonians 2:7 (NIV)
August is National Breastfeeding Month—a time set aside to honor, support, and advocate for nursing families across the country. Organized by the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee, this annual observance shines a light on the deeply personal and often challenging journey of breastfeeding, and the collective responsibility to ensure every family receives the support they need.
Throughout this month, consider ways to engage:
Celebrate and Recognize – Every story matters. Celebrate nursing journeys—both the joys and the struggles—and share stories that build understanding.
Educate and Advocate – Learn more about the health benefits of breastfeeding and raise awareness for breastfeeding-friendly spaces, policies, and workplace protections.
Provide Support – Simple acts of kindness—like preparing a meal, offering childcare, or making space for nursing—can make a meaningful difference.
Connect with Resources – There are many organizations ready to help. Consider sharing these with families who might benefit:
Let this be a month of compassion, justice, and care for every parent navigating the path of nurturing new life.

Loving and nurturing God,We pray for all nursing parents—that they may be strengthened, encouraged, and supported on their breastfeeding journeys. Grant wisdom and compassion to those who guide and assist families. Shape a society that values and makes space for breastfeeding. May all families be met with dignity, understanding, and love. Amen.
