International Self-Care Day is observed every year on July 24, culminating a month-long emphasis that begins on June 24. The symbolism of the date—7/24—reflects a simple truth: self-care is something we are called to tend to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
This day, first established by the International Self-Care Foundation in 2011, invites each of us to pause and reflect on how we care for our bodies, minds, and spirits. For people of faith, this invitation is deeply spiritual. We are beloved by God—not because of what we produce or accomplish, but simply because we are. Self-care becomes not an indulgence, but an act of faithful stewardship of God’s creation—ourselves.
💬 Reflection
“Caring for your body, mind, and spirit is your greatest and grandest responsibility. It's about listening to the needs of your soul and then honoring them.” — Kristi Ling
Self-care is not selfishness, but a sacred responsibility. When we tend to our own needs—spiritual, physical, emotional—we are better able to respond with compassion and energy to the needs of others. Listening to our bodies and souls can be an act of obedience, humility, and trust in the rhythms God designed for us.
🙏 Prayer
God, thank you for intentionally designing our hearts, minds, and bodies. Thank you for encouraging us to honor your creation by taking care of ourselves. Please forgive us for the ways we have ignored our human limitations by pushing ourselves too hard. When we become overwhelmed, stressed, and frustrated, draw near and remind us to pause—remind us to breathe, to rest, and to trust you with all that remains undone. Show us how to tend to ourselves in ways that allow us to better love you and serve our neighbors.
AMEN
