Conversations on the Road 2026

Dialogue & Reflections on the Sunday Scripture Passages

Each Easter season, we return to a beloved story: two disciples walking the road to Emmaus; wandering, wondering, asking questions. Their grief and disappointment prevent them from seeing the presence of Jesus right there beside them. Until suddenly, they do.

Last year, we tried something different with that story. We created space in worship for honest dialogue: real questions, real wrestling, real conversation between pastor and congregation (see videos & links below). The Spirit moved in ways that surprised us.

So we're doing it again.

This summer, for several Sundays, the sermon time will again take the form of a dialogue between Pastor Hector and a member of the congregation. Think of the conversations Jesus had with Nicodemus, the Samaritan woman, the Canaanite woman; honest, probing, sometimes uncomfortable exchanges where people brought their full selves and met God in the process. That's what we're aiming for.

Here's how it works: a congregation member chooses one of the scripture passages appointed for that Sunday — one they're curious about, wrestled with, or have honest questions about. They and Pastor Hector will meet beforehand to talk, explore, and pray over it together. Then on Sunday, they'll sit together and have a conversation, raising questions, naming challenges, sharing what the passage opens up for them today. Up to 15 minutes. No script. Just the road.

2026 dates: May 17 · June 14 · July 26 — plus additional Sundays to be announced.

You may just discover that Jesus has already been walking your road to Emmaus — and the conversation has already begun.
