June 26, 2025 – Breaking the Cycle Through Awareness and Action

Each year on June 26, communities across the globe observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, first established by the United Nations in 1987. It is a moment to reflect on the heavy toll that drug abuse and illicit trafficking take on individuals, families, and society—and to commit ourselves to action, advocacy, and compassion.
Substance abuse affects millions around the world, fueling cycles of violence, poverty, and trauma. Those most impacted are often those with the fewest resources, particularly youth and marginalized communities.
💬 Quote for Reflection
“That’s what we’re here on this Earth for—to help others.”— Betty Ford
This year’s World Drug Day theme—“Break the Cycle. #StopOrganizedCrime”—calls attention to the connections between organized crime, drug trafficking, and the erosion of public health and safety. The campaign urges us to invest in prevention through justice reform, accessible education, health care, and meaningful economic alternatives.
🙏 Prayer
We ask for the willingness and the courage to act… to volunteer… to serve… to love. God, may we be your hands and hearts in a world hurting from addiction and despair. Stir within us a commitment to create communities of healing, justice, and hope. Amen.
