Neighbors in Need Report + May 23, 2026

And they are back 🙂 We had full tables this morning. It was a good neighbors kind of day with leisurely visiting over coffee and breakfast.

Welcome back, Gloria Dei! It truly was good to see you after your winter break. The Gloria Dei team served at least 160 plates of full breakfast plus burritos. Thank you, also, for special treats for beloved pets. That means a lot.

If there is work to do, the youth from St Philopater and St Demiana Coptic are the team to recruit. They spent the morning transitioning the clothing bank inventory from winter to summer. That's heavy work in a crowded space and still they are willing. We sure enjoy your company. Thank you.

Advocates Recovery's medical team were consultants for the entire morning. That means a lot of caring listening as well as record keeping. We are grateful for your service.

The morning's proof of a larger crowd was the count from our pantry crew. They packed and gave 97 bags of groceries plus 3 family boxes. That means welcoming and customizing grocery preferences for 120 guests / a rate of one per minute.

A pledge to our not-always-easy-to-love Neighbors.... with thanks to Nadia Bolz-Weber

"May the truth of who you are - both the lies you believed were true and the truths you wished were lies - land softly, and wear the correct name tags this time. May new ideas about yourself arrive as gently as possible, and may you greet them as old friends who have somehow been looking for you all along. May the hope of who you are becoming win the death match against the regret of who you once were. Because what you need has never come in a baggie or a bottle, or from the hand of someone who needed you to be desperate. It has always and already been given to you. And if you can't believe it yet, we will believe it for you."

With hope,

Joan
