Breast Cancer Awareness Month

ree

Each October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month calls us to compassion and action for those affected by breast cancer. Though remarkable progress has been made in early detection and treatment, 1 in 8 women will receive a diagnosis during her lifetime.

This awareness month reminds us not only of the importance of screenings and research but also of the ongoing inequities in healthcare—especially for women of color, who often face barriers to timely diagnosis and treatment.

As a community of faith, we are called to advocate for access to quality care for all and to surround those living with breast cancer with strength, prayer, and love.

Scripture

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.” — Proverbs 31:25 (NRSVUE)

This verse celebrates the courage and faith of women who face each day with hope, even in times of fear or uncertainty. It reminds us of the holy resilience found in the human spirit and in the love that sustains us.

Prayer

Mothering God,

Help us to care tenderly for ourselves and our sisters.

Empower the researchers, doctors, and caregivers who labor daily to find cures and offer comfort.

Give courage to those living with breast cancer and strengthen their families and communities to surround them with support.

Renew our commitment to equity, compassion, and care for all your children.

Amen.
