Down Syndrome Awareness Month

ree

Each October, we observe Down Syndrome Awareness Month—a time to celebrate the unique gifts, talents, and humanity of individuals with Down syndrome. This observance encourages understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of the diversity of God’s creation.

Down syndrome is the most common chromosomal condition, yet awareness and advocacy continue to be vital. Families, educators, and advocates work tirelessly to ensure that individuals with Down syndrome are recognized for their abilities rather than their challenges.

This month, we are reminded that every life is sacred, every person is wonderfully made, and our communities are richer when everyone is welcomed and valued.

Scripture

“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” — Psalm 139:14

Every person is a reflection of God’s creativity and love. This verse invites us to celebrate the beauty of all people, honoring the dignity that God has placed within each of us.

Prayer

Gracious God,

Bestow your blessings on individuals with Down syndrome and their families. Help us to see and celebrate the joy and light they bring into our world. Open our hearts to appreciate the diversity of your creation, and teach us to recognize the gifts and abilities of every individual. May our communities be places of inclusion, belonging, and love.

Amen.
