Greetings from the Congregation Council!

Greetings from your Congregation Council!

Kirsten Sundberg Lunstrum led us in a devotion for this month’s meeting that reminded us to value each moment and appreciate how we are shaped, loved, and kept whole by both the past and the present, including our challenges and losses. (For reference, read Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and continue reading…)

Meeting highlights:

  • Infant/toddler playground: Nanette Erban, Director of TLCS’ Child Development Center (CDC) shared a proposal for a second playground, which would be geared towards infants and toddlers. The CDC is growing in enrollment, and the current playground is not suitable for infants and young toddlers. The playground would be funded with the CDC’s reserve funds that have accrued over the last few years, due to federal and private funds that were sought and used for expenses which allowed tuition to accrue into a reserve account. The Council looks forward to updates as planning moves forward.

  • New brokerage account: The Council approved moving forward with opening a brokerage account, which will provide options for TLCS to receive contributions of financial securities (stocks, bonds, CDs, etc.).

  • Personnel Committee update: Mark shared highlights from the most recent Personnel Committee meeting. Salary and COLA philosophies were discussed. This will continue to be an ongoing, thoughtful and prayerful process.

  • Building repair project: Since the siding is now included in the project (thanks to a generous donation), this impacts the project timeline. The Council discussed moving forward on the project as quickly as possible. The group also discussed how we will make substantive decisions as the project progresses, such as the color of the building and replacement of the decorative brick, as examples. The Council plans to appoint a task force of 3-5 people to carry the load of these design decisions.

  • Congregation meeting: Mark reviewed the content of the Congregation meeting upcoming on Sunday, June 11 right after worship. Ideas were shared about food and the gathering space. Council members will assist in various roles.

  • Generosity Moments: Pastor Jenna shared some ideas from a recent meeting with Generis, about weekly generosity-related moments in worship, and how each Sunday will have its own unique focus.

God’s work is bubbling up here as we work on physical structures, welcome the future, appreciate our past, and live as fully as we can in the present moment thanks to God’s grace and guidance.

Humbly,

Your Congregation Council
