Lunar New Year: The Year of the Fire Horse

Lunar New Year is a time of vibrant renewal and deep-rooted tradition celebrated by billions of people around the world. Centered on themes of family, gratitude, and prosperity, it marks the transition from the old year to the new with gatherings, shared meals, storytelling, music, and cultural rituals passed down through generations.

Each year in the lunar zodiac cycle is associated with an animal and one of five elements. 2026 is the Year of the Fire Horse, a dynamic pairing that occurs only once every 60 years. The Fire Horse is often associated with energy, courage, transformation, and bold movement—symbols that echo the spirit of new beginnings and forward momentum.

Lunar New Year celebrations vary across cultures—including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and many other communities—yet they share a common thread: honoring ancestors, strengthening family bonds, and welcoming a fresh start with hope and intention.

Scripture

"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." Isaiah 43:18-19 - NIV

Prayer

May the light of this New Year bring a fresh start to our community, our neighbors, and all our brothers and sisters celebrating the Lunar New Year.

May the burdens of the past year be swept away, replaced by the warmth of hope and new beginnings. As families gather across the miles, we pray for safe travels, joyful reunions, and the blessing of harmony in every home.

May this year be marked by health, peace, and flourishing for all.

Amen.
