National Women’s Health and Fitness Day

Every September, libraries across the nation celebrate National Library Card Sign-Up Month, encouraging everyone—especially students—to get their own library card.

Observed annually on the last Wednesday of September, National Women’s Health and Fitness Day calls attention to the importance of women’s physical, emotional, and spiritual health. It’s a reminder that well-being is not selfish—it is an act of love. When women nurture their health, they not only honor themselves but also strengthen families, communities, and the world around them.

This day encourages women of all ages to take steps toward healthier living: eating nourishing foods, staying active, embracing joy, and recognizing their worth as God’s beloved.

Scripture

“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, just as it is well with your soul.” — 3 John 1:2 (NRSVUE)

Health is a holistic gift—body, mind, and spirit—and a blessing we can seek for ourselves and for one another.

Prayer

Loving God,

We thank you for the gift of our bodies and minds, created in your image and sustained by your Spirit. On this day, we lift up the health and well-being of women everywhere. Strengthen us to care for ourselves with wisdom, balance, and joy, and empower communities to support access to health resources for all. May we remember that we are your beloved, called to live in wholeness and abundance.

Amen.
