High numbers seem to be a regular thing at Neighbors in Need these weeks.
Holy Rosary Catholic Church served 162 plates of biscuits and gravy, sausage links and fresh fruit plus apple juice and/or milk. Our pantry gave grocery bags to 84 Neighbors. They gave one family box and gave food and treats to 6 dogs this morning.
Thank you to Holy Rosary for many years of early morning breakfasts and burritos for our Neighbors. They are grateful for the nutritious start to their day. We're love your company!
Our clothing bank started the day (as usual) with a long line of "shoppers". Their customers found what they needed and headed right back out into the sunshine. It's the first time in many weeks that they were finished and cleaned up by closing.
Nurse Christine with Advocates Recovery had a busy morning. Our Neighbors are worried about the flu and so is she. She did a lot of counseling about prevention procedures.
We grieve the death of a deeply committed friend. Jim Smith passed away Friday. For many years, he and Sherry were regular volunteers at Neighbors in Need. They are skilled organizers. Their printed procedures, shopping lists and record keeping protocols are largely responsible for the successful community ministry that Neighbors in Need has become. Sherry, we send you our care.
Thank you to the Red Cross for sharing emergency supplies with us!! They had left overs after their recent care for flood victims. Thank you for pallets of water and nutrition bars. And thank you to our volunteers who loaded these gifts into our storage.
Conversation this morning brought up a question. How do we help our homeless Neighbors believe their worth?
