We had a lot of fun with the word "voluntold" this morning. Our faithful volunteers showed up and were "voluntold" which new-to-them task was the day's assignment.
Thank you to Chris for taking leadership in the kitchen! She led an impromptu team who made about 150 burritos. We have several new graduates of our burrito rolling training program. 😌
We rarely acknowledge care provided by South County Fire. We called them this morning when a Neighbor's blood sugar dropped. Our own volunteer nurses knew to give her fruit juice. Our South County Fire medics cared for her and her husband until she was fully stable. They visit occasionally to care for medically fragile Neighbors. We are grateful for their empathy.
The pantry was, as always, busy. They supplied 73 grocery bags and boxes for 3 families. Advocates Recovery added good old peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to their gifts. They were a hit!
Thank you to the VOAWW staff at Lynnwood Neighborhood Center for welcome gifts! They delivered a huge box of toiletries kits. Our Neighbors were sure pleased. What a great reminder that VOAWW is nearby to support them.
As always, our clothing bank was a "must stop by" this morning. Thank you to the entire community for generous donations. However, we will never have enough men's smaller sizes jeans or men's boxers. We also need belts. Our Neighbors hold up their pants by zip tying belt loops together. Shoes for both men and women are always a need.
Neighbor News:
Joey continues his rehab and will soon transition to an apartment.
Joe, thanks to your generosity, is loving his apartment. It's still a little weird to be inside, but he is loving the transition.
Sue is getting more work hours at Dollar Tree. She is struggling to learn the value of teamwork.
Mikayla is just a few steps closer to accepting mental health care. Her family is consistently supportive. What is it like for them in this long process with so many setbacks?
Melodie is working hard in a rehab facility. She HATES it there. She'll graduate back to her apartment very soon.
BamBam has run away again! He always returns in a day or two, but Sherrie sure suffers without her support cat.
With gratitude,
Joan
