NiN Weekly Report + February 4, 2023

"I AM STILL A GOOD PERSON! 😊😊" This is the sign that one of our Neighbors was flying at a local shopping center this morning. Such a good point. His smile was wide and all love.

What a morning! We had a small series of events which began as high drama, but resolved through successful resolutions and/or “family” teamwork. For example: A Neighbor’s back pack was stolen. The backpack held all of his belongings including a cell phone which he had secured just yesterday. He was so distraught!!! We stood by him while he called Lynnwood Police to report the theft. The responding officer honored his loss. Her care and attention restored his dignity and gave him an action plan. Before he left our property, he took one last tour of the surrounding area. He found his backpack, thoroughly ransacked, but with nothing missing. He learned that the system and NiN care can be effective support.

Thanks to Trinity’s breakfast team for delicious burritos! (They truly are good). It shows a lot of love to willing begin preparing 120 burritos as 7 AM on a dark and rainy morning.

We served breakfast and groceries to 32 Neighbors and one family.

Help Wanted

  1. To our breakfast teams: The team from Holy Rosary is not able to be with us on their normal 3rd Saturday of the month. Is there another team who would trade with them? They are available on any other Saturday.

  2. Clothing Area: We have a new and super well organized clothing area. It is an opportunity to help our Neighbors (one at a time) to chose what they need and also to listen/bond. This is a truly rewarding service. Rick and Peggy are excellent trainers. You will be an effective servant.

  3. Clothing Area (again): If a weekday is more convenient for you, we need help to sort donations on Thursday mornings. This is a roughly 2 hour gig beginning at 10:00 AM.

  4. Set Up: Are you available between 7:15 and 8:15? Can you help set up tables and chairs in preparation for serving our Neighbors? (We’ll have hot coffee ready for you)

  5. Break Down: Are you available between 10:15 and 11:00 to help put away those tables and chairs?

  6. Resources: Do you like to visit with our Neighbors? If so, we need you to help them explore their needs and to direct them toward the resources that are available in our Lynnwood & Snohomish County area. We have information for you to offer and we have mentors to help you be even more knowledgeable.

Please ask if you have any questions or suggestions. Joan Jolly: joan.jolly@gmail.com.

Memorial for Kelly

We will hold a memorial for Kelly Kingen on Saturday morning, February 18 at 9:30 AM. This will be in the multi-purpose room during our regular Neighbors in Need time together. Members of Kelly’s family will be with us. This is an opportunity to share our memories of Kelly with them. They would so welcome your company.
