Alzheimer’s Awareness Month — Holding Memory, Holding Hope

ree

Each November, Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month invites us to recognize the millions of people living with Alzheimer’s and to stand alongside their families and caregivers in compassion and hope. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease that affects memory and cognitive function. More than 7 million Americans live with the diagnosis, including 1 in 9 adults over age 65. Behind every statistic is a life shaped by love, loss, resilience, and care.

This month reminds us that while memory may fade, love remains. It calls us to educate ourselves, support caregivers, and advocate for research that leads toward prevention and healing.

Quote

“Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you.” — Isaiah 46:4 (NIV)

God’s promise of presence and care does not diminish with time. In moments of confusion, grief, or fear, we can trust that the One who created us continues to hold us fast.

Prayer

God of love and nurturing, care for us as our minds and bodies age. When memory fails, give us comfort in our fear and grief. Guide caretakers and physicians to treat with empathy and skill. Hold close families struggling to navigate the losses of this disease.

Amen.

Action

  • Learn the early signs of Alzheimer’s and seek medical advice if you notice concerning changes in memory or behavior.

  • Support caregivers — with time, prayer, meals, or respite. The journey can be long and isolating.

  • Give and advocate for Alzheimer’s research and equitable access to dementia care.

  • Share stories to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding dementia and aging.
