For too many, a monthly cycle comes with a painful choice: pay for period products or meet other basic needs. One in four people who menstruate in the U.S. experience period povertyâthe struggle to afford the necessary supplies. It affects physical health, mental well-being, education, and employment, yet remains largely invisible due to stigma and shame.
Period Poverty Awareness Week, created by the Alliance for Period Supplies, invites communities to speak up, take action, and restore dignity to those affected. At Trinity, we are called to stand with those whose needs are overlooked and to live out compassion in real and tangible ways.
đ Scripture
âNever walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is Godâs hand for that person.ââ Proverbs 3:27 (The Message)
This verse reminds us that when we help meet someoneâs basic needs, we are participating in God's work. We are called to show up, speak out, and offer care.
đ Prayer
Compassionate God, We lift in prayer all who face period poverty. Though menstruation is common, the suffering it causes when unmet is too often hidden. We give thanks for those raising awareness and taking action. Help us break the silence and extend your love by ensuring that period products are accessible to all. May dignity, justice, and compassion flow freely through our hands. Amen.
đŞ Action
Here are four ways to help end period poverty in our community:
Host or support a period product drive.
Donate supplies to the Alliance for Period Supplies or local groups like Raising Girls.
Start a conversation to reduce stigma.
Use #EndPeriodPoverty on social media to raise awareness and invite others to act.
