Observed each year on January 17, Kid Inventors Day celebrates the creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving power of young people. The day is marked on the birthday of Benjamin Franklin, who—at just 11 years old—invented swim fins to help himself move faster through the water.
This celebration honors the spirit of young creators around the world and encourages learning through STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Kid Inventors Day reminds us that innovation isn’t limited by age, and that big ideas often begin with playful curiosity and everyday questions.
History is full of young inventors:
Louis Braille developed the reading system used by people who are blind.
Frank Epperson accidentally invented the popsicle at age 11!
Every child has the power to imagine, explore, and create something new.
Quote
“Do whatever you do from the heart. You are working for Christ, not for people.” — Colossians 3:23 (The Inclusive Bible)
Creativity, effort, and curiosity—especially when offered wholeheartedly—are gifts that can serve the common good.
Prayer
Source of all wisdom and light, we thank you for the gift of imagination in our young people. On this Kid Inventors Day, bless every child and teen with curiosity to explore and courage to create. May their minds be filled with inspiration, and may they use their gifts in STEAM to solve problems and bring good into the world. Guide them as they invent a better future for us all.
Amen.
Action
Use your imagination! Try a fun project that uses STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Try the 1-Hour Invention Challenge:
Set a timer for one hour.
Gather simple materials (paper clips, rubber bands, tape, cardboard).
Identify a small everyday problem (a messy table, tangled cords, forgotten chores).
Invent a solution!
Share your creation with a friend, parent, teacher, or trusted adult before the day is over.
