Neighbors in Need has been serving every week for almost twenty years. Still every Saturday is different and always rewarding.
Once again there were several new faces. They are tentative and need to be actively welcomed to breakfast and to help themselves to coffee.
Our team from Holy Rosary Catholic Church served more than 150 plates this morning. That's a lot of biscuits and gravy, sausage and fresh fruit. They also "upped" the burrito menu. Our Neighbors could choose beans with beef or beans with cheese. Thank you for a busy and generous early morning.
The pantry was equally busy. They gave more than 80 bags of groceries and were able to offer canned soups, fresh salads, peanut butter and bread. Edmonds Food Bank was able to be extra generous this week. We received fresh tomatoes and green peppers from a couple of Lynnwood neighbors. For our Neighbors, garden fresh is a very big deal.
Thank you to Christine with Advocates Recovery Services for providing medical expertise to our Neighbors this morning. It's about more than wound care and offering remedies. Our Neighbors are learning to trust medical professionals. They are increasingly willing to accept help and to follow through with suggestions to go to a clinic.
Wisdom from a Neighbor....
NiN volunteer to a struggling Neighbor, "I know you are taking one day at a time."
Neighbor, as he smiled.... "Many times it is one hour at a time."
That's what we do. We honor those one hour successes.
We wish you peace
Joan
