Thank you to Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church for treating a huge crowd this morning! It was a long lineup for burritos, pastries and coffee.
To underscore that it was a large crowd, our pantry served 107 Neighbors. How many trips did you make to the basement to assemble more grocery bags? We extend thanks from our large crowd. And we extend thanks to Edmonds Food Bank and to Advocates Recovery Services for making those grocery bags a reality.
We were reminded that we are blessed to have medical professionals with us every Saturday morning. A Neighbor who is new to us, collapsed in a seizure. Nurse Gail with Mercy Watch was able to care for him and graciously supervise the many who wanted to help. Gail pointed out that the collaboration of Neighbors and volunteers as they cared for this man was the exact definition of equity.
Gail articulated what we each have felt on various Saturday mornings. "God always has me where I'm "suppose" to be. I am grateful for the reminder today and as always so grateful to work with you in service."
Speaking of medical, it was dental van day! 🙂 The van drives up from Portland and is open for caring by 8 AM. Susan spends several days responding to and scheduling patients. Seven patients were served in 5 hours today. The care included several extractions. There are fewer health threatening toothaches in our Neighborhood today.
Neighbor updates:
Kevin was in today to ask us to pray with him. He is asking for admission to college to study food service. He also asks for peace in his apartment building, safety for his family and he is still counting on that financial windfall.
Kevin sees Gene every once in a while. Remember Gene who lived down by the Edmonds ferry dock? He is a U of W alum and an enthusiastic Husky. He sends best wishes to all at Neighbors in Need and is grateful that he no longer needs us.
Pray for Sherie as she recovers from her assault. The many follow-up details, both medical and legal, are overwhelming, especially when she handles it from her camp.
B-Rad is sleeping inside this fall. Now that he is well rested, he has the patience to accept medical care. He looks great!
Darren got a job! His first day was last Friday. He is certain that he will like his duties.
DRUM ROLL!! Thank you to Hazel Miller Foundation for awarding Neighbors in Need a $5,000 grant. It's truly an affirmation that they found us worthy. Thank you to David Fox for writing the application. We're grateful to Hazel Miller and we're grateful to you.
Yeah, Team!!!
