Overview
Each May, our nation sets aside time to observe Military Appreciation Month—a season of gratitude for the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Though Memorial Day often becomes a focal point, Military Appreciation Month calls us to extend that recognition beyond a single day and to include veterans, active-duty personnel, reserves, and military families in our prayers and acts of support.
Whether in times of peace or in conflict, military members give of themselves in profound ways. Their courage, discipline, and service remind us of what it means to live not only for oneself but for the well-being of others.
Scripture
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”—Joshua 1:9
These words from God to Joshua echo in the hearts of those who walk into uncertainty with bravery. In them we hear a promise: you are not alone.
Prayer
God of Grace,
We give thanks for all who serve and have served in our military. Thank you for their strength, their willingness to sacrifice, and their sense of duty. We ask your protection over those currently serving—at home and around the world.
Be with veterans and their families as they navigate the long-lasting effects of service. Bring peace to those burdened by war and healing to those wounded in body or spirit. May your grace surround them always. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
